Under the Skin
Fifteen-year-old Leroy has grown up on a family farm that’s been fading for as long as he can remember. The days are repetitive, the work is smaller than it used to be, and each year the barn moans louder in the prairie winds. Still, the farm is home — familiar, quiet, and comforting in the way only something long-lived can be. It’s not perfect or pretty, but it’s the only place he’s ever called home.
One summer day, the ground shakes and that fragile peace begins to rot. Animals begin to vanish and strange shadows follow him through the trees. When Leroy’s father leaves to check the cattle and doesn’t come back, Leroy is forced into a role he was never taught to fill. With his younger brother’s life at stake, Leroy must decide whether preserving his father’s legacy is worth the blood it demands—or if destroying home is the only way to save what he has left.
